CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.
Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities
Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.
Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.

Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.

Education:
Master’s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida APRN License
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
Examination of Ocular Surface/Dry Eye patients i ncludes, but not limited to the following:
Eliciting and recording chief complaint/interval history.
Eliciting and recording patient and family medical history.
Measurement of visual acuity at a distance and near with:
Lensometry: measurement of the optical characteristics of spectacle lenses with the lensometer and/or auto lensometer.
Retinoscopy
Refraction: using phoropter, auto refractor, cycloplegic, and trial frame at distance and near.
Confrontation visual fields and Amsler grid testing.
Pupillary evaluation.
Ocular surface dysfunction assessment:
Tear break-up time
Schirmer testing
Fluorescein and rose bengal staining
InflammaDry testing
LipiScan
Osmolarity testing
Use the Keratograph 5M equipment for ocular surface analysis
Ocular surface dysfunction treatments:
LipiFlow treatment
IPL therapy
MIBO therapy
BlephEx therapy
Manual gland expression of meibomian glands
Applanation tonometry:
Goldmann
Tonopen
Interpreting corneal topography/dry eye aberrometry
Being proficient at fitting and educating patients on a range of different contact lenses including soft, toric, multifocal, and specialty lenses such as scleral, hybrid and PROSE
Insertion and removal of hard, soft and scleral contact lenses.
Administration of diagnostic pharmaceutical agents.
Basic ocular photography.
Binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy.
Observe refractive abnormalities and ocular disease.
Prescription of ocular surface/Dry Eye therapeutic medications
Prescription of eyeglasses, contact lenses, low vision aids and orthoptic training.
Examining patients of all ages, including children and the elderly.
Lid Margin Treatment Clinic will consist of the following procedures:
Intense pulsed light: IPL uses gentle pulses of light to treat the underlying causes of dry eye.
Lipiflow: Thermal Pulsation System, a medical device utilizing heat treatment for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction to clear clogged oil glands that contribute to dry eyes.
MiBo Thermoflo: Thermoelectric radiation delivering consistent heat to the meibomian glands increasing the oil production and liquidity.
Blephex: Procedure designed to clean and exfoliate the edge of the eyelids, specifically targeting the area where bacterial biofilm, excess bacteria, and bacterial toxins tend to accumulate.
Manual gland expression: Expresses any stagnant secretions from the glands that blocked the gland opening, which often leads to irritation, dry eyes, and tears evaporating from the eye.
Collagen/Punctal plug placement: Inserted into the punctal opening to block tear drainage through the canaliculus, collagen plugs provide temporary relief of dry eye symptoms.
Insurance covers.
Punctal/Conjunctival insertion: Punctal plug insertion serves to close the duct allowing for lubrication and diminished Dry Eye complications. This procedure is typically performed in patients with severe dry eyes.

Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program
Certification and Licensing:
CPR and ACLS certification required
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license from the state of Florida
Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for Nurse Practitioners preferred
Experience:
Previous experience as an ARNP or a comparable position in a hospital and/or clinical setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Ability to operate all types of hospital equipment necessary to provide for safe patient care.
Ability to demonstrate interviewing skills in obtaining a health history and other related data.
Ability to utilize physical assessment technique in the performance of a proper physical examination.
Ability to speak Spanish preferred
