Metro State University, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, is seeking to hire a nurse educator. This is a fixed-term position within the Department of Nursing and will start on August 18, 2025.
Responsibilities
Faculty members are expected to:
- Demonstrate the ability to teach prelicensure nursing courses effectively to a post-traditional student population and contribute to meaningful assessment of student learning.
- Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research.
- Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study.
- Contribute to student growth and development through advising and assistance.
- Engage in service to the university and community.
- Demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student body by delivering a student-centered education and using approaches that support equitable outcomes for all students.
- Provide excellent learning environments through in-person, online, and/or hybrid course modalities.
Salary Range:
Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.
Employment for this position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) which can be found at on the Minnesota State Employee and Labor Relations website.

Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of a master’s degree in the specified discipline(s), with enrollment in a doctoral program for fields in which the doctoral degree is the terminal degree. Doctoral program must be successfully completed within 5 years to meet the requirement for tenure.
- Eligibility for unencumbered Minnesota RN licensure.
- Minimum of four years professional clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse.
- Expressed commitment to reach in the undergraduate and pre-licensure nursing programs.
- Demonstrated interest in faculty position that prioritizes teaching and emphasizes teaching excellence.
- A plan for scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research in the specified discipline(s), or related disciplines.
- Effective communication skills (written & verbal) to communicate with a variety of persons and groups.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with students and colleagues who are culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse.
- Specific Technical, Computer, and/or Software skills (as needed).
Preferred Qualification
- A completed terminal degree in the specified discipline(s). PhD in nursing or DNP or doctoral degree in a closely related discipline, such as EdD or Public Health (i.e., PhD, DBA, EdD, JD, MFA]
- Recent (within the last 3 years) teaching or clinical practice experience in nursing
- Experience teaching in pre-licensure nursing education.
- Experience developing nursing curricula.
- Experience developing and/or leading nursing simulation experiences
- Professional certification in some area of nursing
- Demonstrated effectiveness teaching at a post-secondary level.
- Experience developing course curricula at a post-secondary institution.
- Demonstrated contributions to assessment of student learning at a post-secondary institution.
- Professional development and/or expertise in culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and/or universal design.
- Experience as an academic advisor for students at post-secondary institution.

College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Department of Nursing
As part of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, the Department of Nursing is committed to academic and scholarly excellence, community partnerships, and to providing a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs that lead to the building of lifelong careers and professionalism within the nursing field. The Nursing Department offers RN-BSN, Prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (PBSN), Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELMSN), and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs. We are located at the St. Paul campus. In person and on-line modalities, as well as principles of adult education, are utilized in our programs. We are seeking a nursing educator to teach primarily in our undergraduate and prelicensure programs. including mentoring and supporting prelicensure nursing students during clinical experiences at clinical sites. Up to fifty percent of credits taught may be focused on teaching students in clinical settings.
RN-BSN Program
The RN-BSN program is a competency-based curriculum that highlights health equity and holistic care by design, in response to the needs of predominantly working adult nurses, our desire to address equity, holism and anti-racism, and AACN’s requirement for nursing programs across the country to meet new essentials for baccalaureate nursing preparation. Through an online, part-time progression that supports student work and home/life balance, students will engage in a curriculum that is sharply focused on critical analysis, equipping graduates to address the pressing issues in nursing and healthcare.
Entry Level Master of Science (ELMSN) Program
The Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a seven-semester program that provides the opportunity for individuals with a baccalaureate degree in a non-nursing discipline to learn the theoretical knowledge and applied skills necessary for the professional practice of nursing. The Metro State University Prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is a four-year undergraduate program that prepares graduates to provide holistic, person-centered care to individuals, families, and communities from diverse backgrounds. This Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is based on a set of core competencies that graduates learn, through a variety of clinical experiences, to adapt to changing healthcare needs and advance health equity through interdisciplinary collaboration, civic engagement, self-care and life-long learning.
