SUMMARY

As a RN Lactation Consultant, your demonstrated empathy, patience and excellent ability to guide are key in preparing mothers to breastfeed and providing safe care for infants.

STATUS: Per Diem

LOCATION: Rochester General Hospital

DEPARTMENT: Women's Care Unit

SCHEDULE: 10 or 12 Hour Days/Evenings, every other Weekend, every other Holiday

REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must be a Certified Lactation Consultant at the time of hire and obtain IBCLC certification within 12 months of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Program Development. Inform about the nutritional and physiological benefits of human milk; assist with decision making; provide anticipatory guidance concerning common problems associated with breastfeeding; describe and encourage good infant rooting, latching and suck-swallow pattern; discuss dietary requirements, medications or other substances which may have an effect on breastfeeding.

  • Individualized Care. Provide individualized assistance to mothers with an identified lactation problem.

  • Leadership & Collaboration. Collaborate with other health workers in maintaining frequent and regular communication with the breastfeeding dyad; assist with staff education including all aspects of lactation management and clinical issues.

EDUCATION:

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: 

BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), IBCLC - International Board Certified Lactation Consultant - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE), RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
