VUMC has an affiliation agreement with Cumberland University. The purpose of this internship is to provide students majoring in Healthcare Administration a quality educational experience through a precepted/observational experiential Administrative Internship program (“Program”) with a VUMC Clinic or Unit that will help them meet requirements for graduation. The VUMC Administration Internship for Students gives students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate coursework the chance to receive practical experience in healthcare administration while positively impacting Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Program participants will be exposed to hospital and/or clinic operations and leadership through a rotation and observation-based experience. Opportunities vary and reflect both participant interest and the needs of the medical center or department..
Each intern will have the unique opportunity to rotate through an area within the medical center to gain an in-depth understanding of Academic Medical Center operations through exposure to various clinical and administrative areas. This may include operations (people, process, technology within the clinical space), quality and patient safety, patient experience, finance, strategy, and market development (marketing and research), human resources. At the conclusion of the internship, interns are expected to present completed documentation on what was observed through a required structured format. Each host area will provide a physical workspace and computer equipment for each intern.
Time Commitment
The VUMC Administration Internship for Students is flexible in terms of dates/times for beginning the program. Hours and days may vary based on the student and operational area/project sponsor. Confirmation of schedule will be reviewed by both intern and host once determined. The average length is between 9-12 weeks.
Compensation
There is no compensation for the VUMC Administration Internship for Students. This is an unpaid internship opportunity designed primarily for educational purposes and to fulfill the requirements of graduation for healthcare administration students. The goal is also to create a pipeline of potential candidates that may be interested in the Administrative/Nursing Fellowship Program.
