SALARY RANGE: $15.00 - $28.80 Hourly
BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Office of Broadband and Digital Equity (BDE) is seeking a high school or college intern to support the BDE Tech Team. This internship will provide insight into the responsibilities of a network engineer tasked to the expansion, support, and maintenance of the FreeBmoreWiFi broadband network. This free public Wi-Fi service is currently deployed at select recreation centers, senior centers, and community hub locations across the city of Baltimore.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support of project management practices and processes
- Support of team scrum practices and processes
- Support of network engineering activities such as network monitoring, issue troubleshooting, issue remediation, and quality assurance and maintenance activities
- Support of performance reporting and metrics
- Support of BDE program events
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior.
- Currently attend a Maryland higher education institution.
- Graduated from a Maryland high school but currently attend a non-Maryland higher education institution.
- Graduated from a Maryland high school and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career technical training program.
- Available to work a minimum of 20 per week.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
For high school students:
- An interest in pursuing a career in information technology, an associated apprenticeship or technical training, or a college degree. For high school graduates:
- An interest in pursuing a career or higher education (college or professional training) in information technology.
For college students:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in an associated information technology or computer science field.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Detail-oriented with a structured approach to tasks
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
