JOB SUMMARY

Administers quality patient care to patients under the direct supervision of an RN physician demonstrating clinical competence and meeting established unit standards given their scope of practice.  Promotes teamwork with staff, physicians, and other disciplines.

JOB DUTIES

Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information. Collaborates with the RN, and physician to support the plans of care for the patient. Triages patients according to ESI triage protocol, intubates as directed by a physician, starts IVs, administers identified medications, and other treatments as able under their scope of practice under the direction of the physician. Performs splint applications and cast removals as well as other procedures after training completed. Takes vital signs, monitor pulses, pulse oximetry, applies automatic non-invasive blood pressure cuffs, obtain EKG, and applies EKG monitoring as needed. Performs EKG on patients as indicated in EMS protocol or under the direction of RN. Responsible for replenishing patient areas with equipment and supplies. Assists with answering phones and making follow up phone calls as needed. Assists in Emergency Department continuing education by participating in-service and continuing education.  Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Education:  High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure:  EMT-P licensure for state of Indiana.  ACLS Certification.

Experience:  One year of experience as practicing EMT-P.
