RN provides nursing support to the department of Gastrointestinal and Oncologic Surgery.
• Effectively and in a timely manner documents nursing phone and chart review assessment, in the electronic medical record as appropriate.
• Triages care to the appropriate program physician, app or fellow in accordance with established algorithms and clinical protocols.
• Responds to messages coming into the department of Gastrointestinal and Oncologic Surgery and triages as needed by phone, in-basket, work queues, etc. Monitors and responds to patient gateway/epic and other electronic patient messages.
• Responsible for educating patients regarding medical management of their diseases.
• Responsible for post op calls and administering post op splenectomy vaccines as appropriate.
• Assists with wound care including not limited to suture removal, vac placement, dressing takedown, bolster removal.
• Works with administrative assistants, nurses, apps, surgeons to ensure prescriptions are refilled in a timely fashion, lab results are reviewed, and results are disseminated to patients.
Qualifications:
• RN or BSN with 2-4 years of experience, preferred
• Hours are 4-10 hour shifts, M-F

-Maintain accurate, detailed reports, and records.

-Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
-Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.

Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred

- Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
- Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.
