Job Summary:
The Radiation Center Registered Nurse will work with limited supervision providing nursing care for patients in
the radiation center. He/she will be responsible to support clinical staff, physicians, and management in the
team and will provide education, support, and access to resources for the patient and family. He/she will prepare,
review and audit health information data entered into the electronic medical record by radiation center staff for
quality monitoring purposes and prepare reports. He/she will direct clinical staff training and competencies
related to patient care and infection control policies.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
1. Coordinates input of new patient information into the electronic medical record (Aria). Audits the electronic medical record for accuracy and changes.
2. Documents patient education and consent. Reviews new patient consultation summary with each patient starting a new course of treatment, as well as the
treatment summary when treatment completed.
3. Assesses patients as requested during their course of treatment for side effects and treatment progress. Perform status checks as requested by physician.
4. Oversees selected Quality Indicators for department.
5. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and facilitates appropriate referrals.
6. Assists with the education and development of staff through informal and formal teaching opportunities.
7. Assists physician with brachytherapy procedures.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training and Licensures Required:
Associate's Degree in Nursing required.
Active Kentucky Nursing License required.
Minimum of 3 years job-related experience required.
ONS/ONCC Radiation Therapy Certificate within 1 year of hire date.
BLS required.
Oncology and radiation oncology experience strongly preferred.
Brachytherapy experience preferred.
Membership and active participation in an oncology-related professional organization preferred.
