The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
The Research Librarian will work in the Library Services Team or in an embedded fashion within designated programs (e.g., nursing teams, health disciplines groups, medicine, etc.) by working closely with their leadership. Directly collaborates with the Library Services Team and designated program groups to curate online resource guides, ensure library information resource collections meet their practice or information needs, provide information research and literature search services, and continuously engage with designated programs to conduct outreach and awareness activities for how Library Services can support their work. Collaborates with and provides back-up for the Library Services department team.
Required Qualifications
- 3 Years library experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 Years library experience supporting healthcare or life sciences.
Other Qualification Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent (ALA accredited); or currently enrolled in a respective Master’s degree program to be completed within 1 year of hire. - Required

Attends huddles, practice councils, and clinical rounds to identify gaps in their information and/or skills training, uses information resources to help close those gaps, offers training, or coordinates vendor-led training.
Provides support and collaborates with other departments, centers, or sites to support the organization’s goals.
Leads and participates in other special projects or activities as needed. - Customer service
Consistently communicates in a positive and timely manner with Sharp staff and affiliates.
Proactively engages with staff and teams in the designated program area(s) to ensure their information, research, and training needs are met.
Establishes strong and positive relationships with Sharp staff and affiliates from designated programs, units, and departments across the system.

Provides the full range of reference, information research, and literature search services and in a timely, efficient, and satisfactory manner.
Responds to general reference inquiries from Sharp staff and affiliates including clinical decision-making, retrieving citation information, accessing online resources including audiovisual skills training materials, locating specific factual data, and other areas to support the organization. - Training, Instruction and Collection
Develops, delivers, and provides training and instruction services to staff in designated program(s).
Provides orientation for new staff and affiliates on library services and information resources.
Develops and provides customized training sessions for Sharp staff and affiliates tailored to their expressed needs.
Collaborates with Education colleagues to ensure training is adequate, innovative, and meets the needs of Sharp staff and affiliates across specified groups and or sites.
Creates and adapts learning/curricula for remote interactive videoconferencing delivery (e.g., Teams, Zoom). - Financial Management
Monitors expenses, investigates, and resolves discrepancies; remains within budget.
Contributes to the identification and implementation of cost saving measures.
Identifies financial savings and customer growth opportunities.
Advanced knowledge of medical databases (e.g., MEDLINE, CINAHL, PubMed, etc.), literature search strategy development, advanced technical/computer literacy skills, advanced experience with citation management programs, and knowledge of medical terminology.
Maintains current awareness of trends in health education, the principles of adult education, online learning and instructional technology. - Operations
Provides effective expert information research and literature search services utilizing a variety of appropriate and available medical, health sciences, and other relevant databases.
Curates information pathfinders or resource guides in consultation and collaboration with Sharp staff and affiliates to support their research literacies, clinical skills development, or other information needs. Collaborates with Library Services to ensure efficiency and consistency.
Advises Sharp staff and affiliates on information monitoring strategies (e.g., alerts) they are accessing the most appropriate and timely knowledge in their respective fields at all times.
Collaborates with Library Services to select, assess, and evaluate print and online information resources to support Sharp staff and affiliates in specific program areas; ensures collections and information resources across Sharp or designated sites are current and relevant.
Communicates with Library Services, Sharp staff, and affiliates in designated area(s), solicits suggestions for possible additions, cancellations, or deletions of journals, books, databases, and other information resources.
Collaborates with Library Services on the evaluation, testing, and selection of new systems and technology to support information resource organization, access, search, and discovery. May include the creation and maintenance of associated electronic records, systems, and technology.
Analyzes and evaluates information needs and usage to develop information resource collections, services, supporting resources, and instructional materials.

- Knowledge of computer database systems, Integrated Library Management Systems (ILMS), MS Office & Teams, Internet browsers, printers, scanners, iPads, smart phones, and similar equipment.
- Proficient in typing, filing, organizing and general office skills.
