Job Description:

Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience as a Global Trade & Investment Intern? Business Oregon, the state’s economic development agency, is looking for one full-time student intern to join our team starting in June 2025 and continuing through September 2025.

The Global Trade & Investment Intern will support Business Oregon in preparing for the October 2025 State of Oregon trade mission to Asia and support the development of the 2025-27 trade & investment strategy/work plan. This initiative involves engaging diverse stakeholders, preparing for working group meetings, conducting research, and creating detailed materials to support the trade mission. You will have the opportunity to work closely with Business Oregon staff, stakeholders, and partners such as the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Travel Oregon, and the Port of Portland to support various aspects of the trade mission as well as strategy/work plan development.

Internship Details:

  • Position Available: Global Trade & Investment Intern.

  • Duration: June 2025 – September 2025. Positions are 10-12 weeks; timing is flexible within the summer months.

  • Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week on average).

  • Location: Hybrid position with one day per week in our Portland office (World Trade Center) and the remaining days remote.

  • Compensation: Paid internship $19.77 hourly.

What you will learn:

Trade Mission Planning & Support:

  • Logistics, scheduling support, and documentation for the October 2025 State of Oregon Asia trade mission.

  • Supporting Business Oregon staff and international contractors with tasks related to the October 2025 State of Oregon Asia trade mission.

  • Creation of the detailed Asia Trade Mission 2025 Agenda.

  • Supporting the finalization of the State of Oregon Trade Mission Playbook, through detailed checklists, establishing timelines, sample document compilation, and other related tasks.

Trade & Investment 2025-27 Strategy/Workplan Support:

  • Supporting Business Oregon staff to develop the 2025-27 trade & investment strategy/work plan through research and comparative analysis of competitor state programs and tactics.

  • Conducting market research for key clusters.

  • Conducting country-specific research for key markets.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Opportunity to engage with a range of stakeholders, including other state agencies and industry representatives, through working group meetings and public outreach efforts.

  • We are seeking students studying business administration, international business, planning, geography, economics, public administration, or similar fields.
