A Brief Overview
Responsibilities of the charge nurse primarily focus on managing the operation aspects of services to patient, physicians, and staff during their assigned shift. Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties of health care team members. Problems solves, making decisions using professional judgment, and advocating patient care quality. Serves as a resource to staff, demonstrating strong clinical skills, and critical thinking. Supports department service and hospital standards.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • 2 years Current experience in related clinical field in acute care facility. Preferred
  • 1 year Supervisor experience. Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required

  • Participates in system wide/department quality improvement activities as well as standards development. Assists in regulatory readiness. Makes recommendations regarding data collection and evaluation. Reviews incident reports or patient complaints in a timely manner, identifying trends and develops appropriate solutions or follow up.
  • Responsible for determining department daily staffing needs and monthly call schedules to ensure efficient/effective operations. Provides coverage for peers during absences, maintaining the knowledge to care for patients in a skillful, effective manner, while promoting the continuum of care.
  • Participates in the development of staff education and competency needs. Ensures effective orientation of new staff. Actively participates in staff performance evaluations, new employee recruitment and interviewing, as well as maintains standards for discipline in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
  • Provides and maintains a healthy, safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with regulatory agency requirements and standards set forth by professional organizations and institutional policies.
  • Maintains knowledge of current practice issues related to the field of gastroenterology, invests in professional growth and development.
  • Demonstrates support of policies, programs, vision, mission, and strategic plan of Stormont Vail Health as they affect each department and service to the overall organization.
