Assures that department customer(s) needs are met through the efficient and effective leadership/management of department resources.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Core elements: Maintains 24 hour responsibility and accountability for operations of assigned department.

a. Supports hospital mission and values statement, strategic plan and vision, and department service statement/department philosophy.

b. Develops, administers and evaluates department goals and objectives which are consistent with hospital goals and objectives.

c. Develops, administers and evaluates department policies and procedures which are consistent with hospital policies and procedures. Administers hospital policies and procedures.

d. Maintains responsibility and accountability for effective fiscal management of department including:

- Operating expenses

- Human Resource allocation

- Capital expenditure

- Revenue maximization

e. Assures competency of staff and self by:

- Timely completion of performance appraisals within 90 days of due date

- Staff attendance at mandatory continuing education training make-up sessions within 30 days of training date

- Implementation of disciplinary actions when appropriate

- Hiring of qualified, competent staff

- Completion of hospital, departmental and position specific orientation for new or transferred associates within 30 days of hire

- Professional development of self and staff

- Personal compliance and departmental compliance to hospital-wide minimum standards of performance

- Verification of current certifications/licensure before hiring and as appropriate

f. Accountable and responsible for Quality Assessment and Improvement in department. Fosters culture of continuous quality improvement and hospitality.

- Develops formal QA&I plan and monitors trends

- Assures implementation of QA&I concepts in the evaluation of departmental processes

- Eliminates waste within department and empowers associates to do the same

- Facilitates teamwork intra and interdepartmentally. Removes barriers that impede service to the customer across and within department(s).

- Fosters pride of workmanship among hospital associates

- - Integrates risk management concepts into QA&I

- Established a culture supportive of Hendricks Way.

g. Assures a safe working environment for self and others through:

- Compliance to infection control/universal precaution standards

- Hazardous materials management

- Disaster/fire safety management

- Adherence to administration of general safety policy and procedures

h. Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with:

- Customers

- Hospital associates

- Administration

- Other department managers

- Medical staff

- Written/verbal reports

- Remains visible/accessible to all departmental associates

i. Supports community focus of hospital through participation in community events and activities.

2. 20% of time would be clinical hours

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing required, Master's degree preferred in a pertinent related field.

1-2 years of experience required

Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:

Current RN license
