Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is proud to announce an exciting and mission-critical opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RN) - Deputy Inspector. This newly created position serves as a vital investigative role within our agency, designed to enhance oversight, promote transparency, and strengthen the quality of care delivered across our department. As the RN - Deputy Inspector, you will work within a multidisciplinary team to conduct internal reviews and investigative assessments related to healthcare delivery in NDCS facilities. Your clinical expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to ethical practices will help ensure that medical services provided to incarcerated individuals meet the highest standards of professional care and regulatory compliance.

  • RN – Deputy Inspector position will report to the NDCS Chief Inspector.
  • This position will conduct interviews, investigations, audits and write reports on information gathered from all sources.  Locates, collects, and preserves evidence.
  • Reviews complaints filed by incarcerated individuals or parolees, their families, or as assigned by the NDCS Chief Inspector.
  • Will assist with or conduct interviews of medical and other NDCS personnel, review NDCS policies and procedures, and provide consultation on medical issues and long-term care issues to the NDCS Chief Inspector, NDCS Legal Division, cooperating law enforcement, and NDCS Executive staff; and review complaints filed with NDCS or from other sources.
  • Conducts routine and advanced reviews, inquiries, and investigations of possible or alleged fraud, waste or misconduct including allegations of abuse or neglect of persons within NDCS.
  • Develops accurate detailed reports of all reviews, inquiries, and investigations with recommendations based on a statement of facts for administrative action or referral, if warranted. Assists the

  • Procures, analyzes and interprets computerized data, financial records, medical records, investigative records, legal documents, federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and other material to confirm or dispel allegations of misconduct, fraud, or abuse.
  • May testify in administrative or court proceedings resulting from investigations or audits. Provides education to provider groups and community groups, if requested.


 

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska and one year of relevant experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Certified Nurse Investigator certification. Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience with a focus on clinical practice/healthcare administration. Experience in risk management, fraud/misconduct investigations, healthcare compliance. Experience conducting investigations, audits, or quality assurance reviews within a healthcare/corrections setting. Knowledge of State and Federal regulations. Experience in reviewing policies, procedures, and processes.

Other: Must submit to background security check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' Pre-service Training Program.
