As a Physical Therapist, you will utilize various exercises to help patients increase strength, range of motion, endurance and coordination. Because this position requires close interaction, you can build strong relationships with both patients and their families. Often, your patients are dealing with pain, so sensitivity is important. Ultimately, your unconditional support and reassurance can drive them to work hard and regain their health.
A caregiver in this position works rotating day/evening shifts, from 8:30am—5:00pm or 10:30am—7:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Evaluate and conduct medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs.
Interpret plans and supervise patient treatments in accordance with the physician referral, ensuring the care, safety and wellbeing of the patient.
Review and evaluate the patient's response or lack thereof to treatment.
Make recommendations to the physician relative to the need to continue or discontinue physical therapy treatment.
Provide appropriate documentation of each patient visit in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Be responsible for the maintenance and care of all equipment and apparatus.
Be responsible for the economical use of supplies, linens and utilities.
Provide appropriate billing for each patient visit in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Assist in on-the-job training of all ancillary personnel.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s Degree or certificate
Graduate of a Physical Therapy Program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association or a related international degree
Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Internship experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience in Occupational Therapy or Rehab
Experience in an acute-care setting
