Job Description

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in providing quality nursing care to a student population focusing on preventative, maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. Serves as an essential part of the multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, advanced practice practitioners, nurses and medical specialists. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with all areas of the LSU Student Health Center (SHC), and be committed to advancing the divisional priorities of commitment to quality, communicating a sense of home, designing with everyone in mind, and cultivating a positive and productive relationship with Our Lady of the Lake Health. 

Job Responsibilities:

50% - Assists the Nurse Manager with Medical Clinic Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, including quality reporting, risk management, project management, continuing education, and accreditation, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care. Supports the Nurse Manager in training for SHC Medical Clinic staff on quality assurance, infection prevention, risk management, and compliance to maintain best practices and standards. Ensures compliance with CDC, OSHA, and University safety guidelines within the SHC. Contributes to the SHC infection prevention program, including annual housekeeping education.  Works with the QI Committee to maintain AAAHC compliance.

20% - Makes independent nursing decisions, including assessment, triage and teletriage in accordance with established protocols. Collaborates/communicates effectively with medical providers and clinic staff to maximize student outcomes. Performs a variety of clinical nursing skills within RN scope of practice, including medication administration and point-of-care testing. Assists providers as needed with procedures. Provides education to students regarding preventive care and self-care related to illness/injury and health maintenance. Effectively utilizes EHR for billing, scheduling and compliance purposes.

20% - Serves as a resource for nursing staff on clinical questions, patient care issues, and problem-solving. Supports recruitment, hiring, and orientation of new staff, and assists with daily scheduling of assignments as needed. Aids the Nurse Manager in ensuring effective resource and budget allocation. Collaborates with the OLOL Education Team to ensure newly hired nursing staff complete all training requirements and maintain up-to-date CPR certification.

5% - Participates in LSU outreach events, campus education initiatives, quality improvement activities, and infection control and prevention efforts. 

5% - Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Medical Director, and direct supervisor. This includes but is not limited to efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including engaging in in-service opportunities for the division, and other special projects. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse with an Associate's Degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3 years experience working with traditional college age students; experience in a college health setting; commitment to practice that supports a collaborative care model.

Other Requirements/Expectations:

Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

May be required to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.

In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.

This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.
