As a Registered Nurse Level IV, you will leverage your clinical expertise and leadership skills to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for patients. Additionally, you will serve as a mentor to fellow team members, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest standards of care on the unit.
Excellence in Surgical Patient Preparation and Recovery
The Pre-Anesthesia and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Unity Hospital plays a critical role in the perioperative process, providing high-quality care for both adult and pediatric patients undergoing elective and emergency surgeries. With 14 Pre-Anesthesia bays and 27 Post-Anesthesia bays, our unit supports a broad range of surgical specialties, including:

Pre-Anesthesia Care
In the Pre-Anesthesia area, nurses perform comprehensive assessments and preparation, including:
- Medical history review, medication reconciliation, allergy screening
- Pre-operative testing (e.g., blood work, EKGs)
- Coordination of care with anesthesia and surgical teams
- Informed consent education and emotional support for patients and families
Post-Anesthesia Care
In the PACU, highly trained nurses provide vigilant post-operative monitoring and care, focusing on:
- Recovery from anesthesia and pain management
- Monitoring for post-surgical complications
- Vital signs and airway management
- Patient and family education prior to transfer or discharge
This role is part of the Registered Nurse Level IV / Clinical Nurse IV must complete the following:
Complete the Clinical Ladder binder within 12 months of employment
Minimum of 5 activities in each Pillar (Leadership, Quality, and Organizational Contribution)
15 Continuing education units (CEU's)
20 Flex items
STATUS: Full Time
LOCATION: Unity Hospital
DEPARTMENT: PACU
SCHEDULE: Day/Evening/Night - Every other weekend / holiday
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
Minimum of 6 months experience as a registered nurse.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assessment. Perform initial and ongoing assessment of the patient; demonstrate exceptional clinical judgment and advanced assessment skills; communicate and document assessment with interdisciplinary team; utilize all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and family
- Planning & Implementation. Develop and document plan of care, treatment and services; collaborate interdisciplinary health team to deliver care; maintains an appropriate nurse-patient relationship and provides an exceptional experience for the patient and family
- Evaluation & Education. Evaluate, communicate and document patient responses to care; revise plan of care based on ongoing evaluations; ensure the patient receives and understands education/training specific to their needs and abilities
- Training. Provide training for new team members on the unit; assume role of teacher for nursing students and other students shadowing on the unit; act as a resource for other team members for both clinical and non-clinical matters
EDUCATION:
BS: Nursing (Required)LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA), RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
