We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Classical Hematology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA. This position is ideal for an experienced and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with a passion for patient care in the field of Hematology, both malignant and benign. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing both malignant and benign hematology patients, working both independently and collaboratively with a team of other APPs and physicians. This is a full-time position with 4-day work weeks, consisting of 10-hour shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Conduct comprehensive assessments and provide diagnosis, treatment, and management for a diverse range of classical hematologic conditions, including but not limited to blood disorders, cancer types, and treatment regimens (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, etc.).
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including lab work and imaging studies, and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
Initiate, monitor, and manage treatment protocols, including chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and other supportive care measures.
Provide education and counseling to patients and families about their diagnoses, treatment options, and prognosis.
Address and manage treatment-related side effects and complications.
Collaborative Care:
Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including MDs, NPs, PAs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure optimal patient care.
Collaborate with other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care across settings (e.g., hospital, home care, etc.).
Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including medical history, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes.
Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner and in compliance with clinic policies and regulatory requirements.
Education & Professional Development:
Stay current with developments in the fields of hematology including both malignant and hematologic conditions through continuous education and professional development.
Participate in ongoing training and certification as required for practice.
Willing to train APP on procedures such as bone marrow biopsies
Qualifications:
Graduate of approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program with certification and Master's degree
Current Massachusetts NP or PA license
If prescribing medications is included in clinical duties and privileges, Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.
Hematology Oncology experience preferred.
