Job Summary
SummaryThe primary purpose of your job is to provide nursing services in the Emergency Department in accordance with the current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the CEO, Director of Physician Services, CNE and practice providers.
Essential Functions
Assesses physical, psychological and social dimensions of the patient:
Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries and disease and uses available resources in assessment process.
Provides written assessment of patient on admission.
Documents nursing intervention, patient response, effectiveness and complications and summarizes information on discharge.
Summarizes assessment data and makes a nursing care plan which is written and communicated to other patient care providers.
Implements plan of care:
Implements clinical and technical aspects of care and nursing orders in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Intervenes with proper technique, procedure and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patients.
Functions within the limits of State Nurse Practice Act, hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
Patient and family instruction/education and discharge planning:
Assesses, plans and implements instruction for patient and family needs.
Communicates such plan via Bedside Shift Report.
Provides verbal and written instructions including medication and side effects.
Professional leadership:
Reports patient care or management problems to Clinical Coordinator and /or supervisor when necessary and investigates and intervenes in problem situations reporting appropriate information.
Makes outpatient assignment based on acuity and staff qualifications and experience.
Coordinates unit routines, providing guidance to staff, orienting new staff, assuring presence and working order of emergency equipment.
Unit requirements: Acute care- MED/SURG:
Demonstrates ability to care for patients in various age group, pediatrics to geriatrics.
Demonstrates ability to care for surgical patients.
Demonstrates ability to care for medical patients.
Demonstrates ability to provide safe environment for short-term psychiatric patients.
Demonstrates a working knowledge and safe use of medications specific to the acute care patient population.
Personal growth and development:
Identifies own learning needs and seeks opportunities for self growth, using and sharing skills gained through continuing education classes.
Has completed annual nursing competencies.
Has attended annual mandatory day.
Age specific competency:
Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms of patients, recognizing a patient’s psychological development and modifies approaches for patients.
Interview and communication techniques are age-appropriate.

Education
Associate's Degree Nursing required Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred

Licenses and Credentials
Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Mass.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- ACLS/PALS/BLS required
- TNCC preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1 year of emergency room or critical care RN experience required.
